Barbapedana is an italian music group founded in 1978 and performs in various ways with theatre companies, multivision and dance groups. The group performed in Italy (Venice Biennale, Music in the Venice Ghetto, Ancona Klezmer Festival, Oy oy oy Festival, Ferrara Festival of the Jews Book in Italy ecc.) and abroad in Mexico, Tunisia, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Cabo Verde Islands, Romania, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland.
In 2008 performed in the European Parliament in Bruxelles.
Barbapedana introduces us to the rich world of klezmer & gypsy music of Eastern Europe.
Togheter with traditional folk instruments ( including bagpipes, panpipes, tamburitza and derbuka) the group also performs on violin, piano accordion, guitar, mandolin, clarinet and a rhythm section with electric bass and drums.
Exciting rhythms and yearning melodies intermingle with one another giving life to a performance that also aims at involving the audience…
The group has produced 6 CD, last of which, entitled “Ghetto Klezmorim” (Evolution Music) is dedicated to the Venice Ghetto.
